Break Through Your Artist’s Block: Tactics for Finding New Inspiration

The creative journey

The “inspiration, motivation, action” cycle is a common experience for many of us as we create our work.

Inspiration is the spark that ignites the creative process. It can come from a variety of sources, such as nature, other works of art, personal experiences, or even random thought. Inspiration is often described as a feeling of excitement or curiosity that drives you to explore new ideas and concepts.

Motivation is the driving force that keeps you moving forward in your creative process. It is the internal drive to see a project through to completion. Motivation can come from a variety of sources, such as a desire to express yourself, a sense of accomplishment, or a need to communicate a message to an audience.

Action is the physical act of creating artwork. It is the process of bringing inspiration and motivation together to create a tangible piece of art. This can involve sketching, painting, sculpting, or any other medium you choose to work in.

Together, inspiration, motivation, and action form a cycle that allows you to continually create new and exciting works of art. Inspiration leads to motivation, which in turn leads to action, and the cycle repeats itself as you continue to create.

It’s also important to note that, the cycle can be different for every artist, some of you may have a strong flow of inspiration, while others may have to work hard to find it. Motivation can also fluctuate and sometimes it can be hard to keep the fire burning, but the key is to keep pushing forward, and that’s what makes the cycle so important, it allows you to keep creating.

When you feel stuck or paralyzed by a lack of ideas or indecision, taking action can be the most important step in the cycle. When you feel stuck, it can be easy to get caught in a cycle of self-doubt and procrastination. However, the key is to remember that actions, even small actions, can help break this cycle. Even if you don’t know exactly what you want to create or how you want to create it, taking small actions, such as sketching or experimenting with different materials, can help generate new ideas and build momentum.

It’s also important to remember that not every piece of art will be a masterpiece and that’s okay. Allowing yourself to make mistakes and experiment with new ideas can help you break out of a creative rut and find new inspiration.

If you feel stuck, it’s also important to take a break, step back and clear your mind. Sometimes, taking a break can be the best action to do, it can help you gain a fresh perspective and come back with new ideas.

Overall, the key is to keep pushing through the hurdles and to keep taking action. The more you create, the more you will learn about your own creative process, and the more you will be able to overcome the challenges that come with creating new art.
